When Disaster Strikes, Are Your Records Safe?

Storing data off-site as part of a well-thought-out disaster recovery plan will help reduce down time if a disaster strikes. If your company was damaged by a fire, earthquake, flood, employee sabotage or hackers would it continue?

According to the University of Texas, 94% of companies suffering from a catastrophic data loss do not survive. By storing data with an off-site vendor, your records will not be compromised by water, fire or smoke damage, will be safe from sabotage and will be available in case of emergency.

Many companies view off-site storage as having an employee take home tapes and hard drives. But there are many vulnerabilities and liabilities in cases like these. If your organization chooses to store data in a bank safe deposit box, you may be inconvenienced by bank hours. If it is a weekend or holiday, you won’t be able to access the critical data in a timely manner. Also, neither of these scenarios provides the optimal storage environment for media. If not stored correctly, your data may degrade quickly and you could experience data loss.

Securing backup, disaster recovery and archive data with a professional off-site storage vendor can make all the difference in the longevity of your organization and provide peace of mind.

Off-site storage facilities will provide:

  • Temperature and humidity controlled for optimal media storage environment
  • Physical security to protocols for data protection
  • Backup power systems
  • Courier service to transport data
  • Records available 24/7/365
  • Fire protection

Many premium facilities will offer the added benefits of:

  • Protection from natural disasters (not located within flood planes or fault lines)
  • Located in a stand alone structure, safe from neighbor catastrophes and accidents

Also, a sound off-site storage solution can provide compliance with the following regulations:

  • HIPAA/HITECH
  • FACTA – Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act
  • GLB – Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
  • SOX – Sarbanes-Oxley Act

By utilizing an off-site data storage facility, your organization will be protected when disaster strikes.
